The Wedding Story
The Vision: Historic Grandeur Without Logistical Compromise
When Chelsea Lee and Brian Revercomb began planning their September wedding, they fell in love with the timeless gravitas of Virginia’s historic architecture—but refused the compromises typical of old manors. They wanted grand outdoor scenery, total privacy, and one open, unified room where all 170 guests could dine and dance together without being separated into small parlor rooms.
With 120 private acres reserved 100% exclusively for their celebration, Great Marsh gave them an unhurried 14-hour timeline from their morning preparations to their midnight sparkler send-off.
A Relaxed, Non-Crossing Morning
The day began at 8:00 AM across separate floors of the Georgian Manor:
- The Second-Floor Bridal Salon: Sun-drenched natural morning light filled the private styling wing as Chelsea and her bridal party prepared with hair, makeup, and mimosas overlooking the grounds.
- The Ground-Floor Groom’s Lounge: Brian and his groomsmen spent a relaxed morning playing pool by the stone fireplace before dressing in tailored black-tie tuxedos.
- Guaranteed Privacy: With independent exterior entrances on opposite levels of the manor, the couple relaxed on-site all morning with zero fear of an accidental pre-ceremony run-in.
The South Courtyard Ceremony
At 5:30 PM, 170 guests gathered on the stone-paved terrace of the South Courtyard. Greeted with chilled lemon-infused water, family and friends took their seats facing the estate’s neoclassical stone balustrades, with panoramic views of the Piedmont foothills and late-summer woodland serving as the altar.
Framed by mirrored gold plinths and lush garden roses, ranunculus, and delicate greenery, Chelsea made her entrance down the stone steps in an off-the-shoulder lace ballgown, meeting Brian to exchange vows under the Virginia afternoon sun.
Veranda Cocktail Hour & Artisanal Grazing
Following vows, guests strolled to the Historic Manor House and covered veranda for an indoor-outdoor cocktail hour serviced by dual bar stations to ensure drink lines never formed. Alongside a curated bar and a signature ginger-lime mocktail (“The Charlotte”), Serendipity Catering circulated hot, butler-passed hors d’oeuvres:
- Crispy Chicken & Belgian Waffles with warm amber maple drizzle.
- Applewood Bacon-Wrapped Sea Scallops with maple glaze.
- Warm Cranberry & Triple-Cream Brie Bites in golden puff pastry.
In the Manor foyer, guests gathered around a monumental 100-guest artisanal grazing table overflowing with sliced Italian charcuterie, aged cheeses, antipasto skewers, and fresh berries. Meanwhile, Chelsea and Brian enjoyed a private newlywed tasting plate before escaping along the tree-lined carriage drive for golden-hour sunset portraits.
Unified Dining & An Electric First Dance
At 6:50 PM, guests were greeted at the Historic Stables with flutes of chilled champagne and sparkling cider. Inside, warm brick walls, soaring timber rafters, and crystal chandeliers set an intimate black-tie scene.
Chelsea and planner Pam Aiello of Elizabeth Bailey Weddings designed a multi-textured tablescape across the hall, pairing handcrafted wooden farm tables and round guest tables with gilded ivory linens, gold-rimmed show plates, and crystal stemware.
In an exciting break from predictable reception timelines, Chelsea and Brian ignited the room early: immediately following their formal introductions and first dance, they pulled their guests into a surprise 4-song mini-dance set, completely packing the dance floor before dinner was even served.
Turnkey Plated Dining by Serendipity Catering
Because Great Marsh features a permanent on-site commercial kitchen directly behind the Stables, dinner was plated fresh à la minute by Serendipity’s 21-person culinary team—with zero lukewarm hot-boxes or temporary kitchen tent surcharges:
- Artisan Bread Service: Warm herb focaccia with whipped wildflower honey butter.
- Plated Salad Course: Crisp mixed greens, poached orchard apples, sweet cranberries, candied walnuts, and Greek feta in aged balsamic vinaigrette.
- Plated Main Entrées: Carved center-cut beef tenderloin in a shallot demi-glace with garlic shiitake mushrooms; jumbo lump Maryland crab cakes with tarragon remoulade; and vegan stuffed bell peppers with avocado crema—all served alongside creamy parmesan risotto and lemon-steamed broccolini.
Hearthside Espresso Bar & Shimmer Wand Send-Off
Following dinner toasts, Chelsea and Brian cut their 4-tier artisanal cake from Gateau Distinctive Cakes, offering guests chocolate, spiced carrot, and vanilla bean layers.
By 9:15 PM, the celebration expanded to the courtyard patio with an Artisan Barista Espresso Station, serving handcrafted lattes, cappuccinos, and cordials under the stars. The night wrapped with an electric dance party until 11:00 PM. For their grand finale, all 170 guests lined the manor’s carriage drive with silver shimmer wands, sending Chelsea and Brian off under a glowing canopy of light.
